Int’l Fajr announces Chinese contestants

The 37th annual Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) has announced a total of six movies from China Cinema to go on screen at the event.  

The lineup will be screened at the “Retrospective of Chinese Cinema” which is a subsection of the “World Cinema” section of the event.

The films are to showcase the cultural and cinematic aspects of China, to shed light on untold stories, to share unique stories, and to bring together unique characters on screen.

‘Red Flowers and Green Leaves’ by Miaomiao Liu, ‘The Enigma of Arrival’ by Song Wen and ‘The Photographer’ by Wei Zhang are among the contenders.

The list also includes ‘A First Farewell’ by Lina Wong, ‘Ala Changso’ by Sonthar Gyal and ‘My Dear Friend’ by Yang Pingdao.   

‘A First Farewell’ previously competed in the Children and Youth section (Generations) of the Berlin International Film Festival, receiving Crystal Bear of this section as well as a Special Jury Award.

‘My Dear Friend’ director Pingdao is also a known figure to world cinema, particulary for his documentary ‘The River of Life’.  

‘Ala Changso’, just like other applauded movies, is a recipient of various awards, including Special Jury Prize and Best Screenplay Award of the Shanghai Int’l Festival.

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival pays tribute to quality local and international films while celebrating cultural exchange and displaying creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes.

The 37th edition of the festival is slated for April 18-26, 2019 in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
